Wahoo Fitness TICKR X Multi-Sport Motion and Heart Rate Monitor
The three pillars of TICKR X
The technology of the Wahoo Fitness TICKR X is based on three pillars, namely motion analysis, built-in memory and heart rate training.
Heart rate monitor with motion analysis
The Wahoo Fitness TICKR X contains a 3-axis accelerometer that measures various movements during running or while riding an indoor bike. Based on the movements, it provides insight into running technique - stride frequency (total steps per minute), ground contact time (how long the foot makes contact with the ground) and vertical oscillation (how high the foot rises during running).
Based on the data from the built-in accelerometer, the TICKR X assigns a Wahoo Running Smoothness™ score that indicates how well you run. This score is measured on a scale of 50 to 150. The higher the number, the better your form.
Heart rate monitor that measures pedalling frequency
In addition to movements during running, the TICKR X can measure pedalling frequency during indoor cycling such as on the KICKR or on a spinning bike. With each pedal stroke, your body swings from left to right and vice versa. The accelerometer detects this movement and determines the cadence. Note: this only applies to indoor cycling. Outdoor cycling contains too many obstacles such as bumps in the road.
Heart rate monitor with built-in memory
The TICKR X contains a flash memory that can store up to 16 hours of workout data. This is the first time that data can be stored without having to take the smartphone with you. Heart rate, calories burned and workout time are all synchronised with the Wahoo App on the smartphone at a later date. This allows the user to leave the smartphone at home.
The TICKR X can now be used for many more sports, which was not possible before, for example swimming or football. At present, it is not yet possible to analyse complex movements. For this data, the smartphone must be carried.
Heart rate training
The Burn & Burst programme has eight-week training programmes designed to burn fat or improve speed and performance. There are special programmes for beginners, intermediate and advanced that focus on low intensity, cardio workouts to burn fat and high intensity programmes to improve performance. This Burn & Burst programme can only be found in the Wahoo App.
The Wahoo iOS app supports the TICKR X. Android support will be available in November.
