If you do connect three monitors, two of them will display the same image. For Macbooks with the M1 chip you can connect a maximum of 1 external display. For Macbooks with the M1 Pro chip, you can connect up to 2 external displays. Macbooks with the M1 Max chip can have up to 4 external displays connected.
